Pecan Pie
Pecan pie is considered the epitomy of southern cuisine. It's origins are attributed to the French who settled in New Orleans. These settlers were introduced to pecans by the Native Americans. It is a popular holiday dish. It is usually made with corn syrup and most recipes include vanilla and a pinch of salt. Regional variations on this dish also occasionally include chocolate and bourbon. This recipe is a classic version of traditional pecan pie. Serve with whipped cream or hot with vanilla ice cream. It is so delicious!
Cook Time
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1 frozen pie crust
- 1/8 tsp salt
Directions
- Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl.
- Beat the eggs in small bowl then add to the butter and sugar.
- Mix flour and sugar in the empty egg bowl. Then add to the pie mixture.
- Finally, add syrup, vanilla, nuts, salt, and cinnamon.
- Bake prepared pie crust for about 10 minutes.
- Then add the pecan mixture to the pie crust and bake for an hour at 300 degrees (until top is firm). I put aluminum foil around the edge of the crust to keep it from burning while baking.
- Serve topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
