Faux Filet Mignon
Faux Filet Mignon
A Faux "Cute Filet"
Filet Mignon in French means "cute filet" or "dainty filet". A filet mignon is typically a steak cut from the small end of the tenderloin. The tenderloin is the most tender and thus expensive cut of steak. Filet Mignon is a tender, savory, and delicious cut of meat. It is highly expensive though. Many times they are prepared wrapped in bacon.
This recipe substitutes hamburger meat for the expensive steak cut. It is seasoned with lemon pepper, Parmesan cheese, and mushrooms. These faux filets are then wrapped in bacon and baked in the oven. The result is amazing. It is great served with garlic mashed potatoes or a baked potato on the side. Throw in a green side salad or a side caesar salad and you have a meal that will leave you full and satisfied.
Cook Time
Ingredients
- 2 lb. hamburger meat
- 1 1/2 tsp lemon pepper
- 1 8 oz can mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp onion, minced
- 1 tsp garlic, minced jar kind
- 2 tbsp green bell pepper, minced
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded or grated
- 1 pack bacon, (enough to wrap each "steak")
- 1 small bag spinach, fresh (optional)
Directions
- Mash hamburger meat into a 9 x 13 pan, covering the bottom.
- Sprinkle lemon pepper onto the meat. Then sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top of that.
- In a small bowl, mix up the mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. Spread this mixture over the meat. Top with spinach leaves also if desired.
- Roll the meat up into a jelly roll. Slice into "rings".
- Wrap each "steak" with a piece of bacon, fastening it with a toothpick. (I suggest paritally cooking bacon first.)
- Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 40 minutes or until cooked throughout.
