Grape Salad
Grape Salad
The Oldest Cultivated Crop???
According to my research, grapes are one of the oldest cultivated crops in history (cultivation of this crop began in the Neolithic period, 6000-6500 B.C.). Grape cultivation spread throughout Europe during the Greek and Roman empires. Then around 1700, the Spanish brought cultivated grapes to California. Since their arrival, many different species of grapes have been brought over and developed here. Approximately 90% of the grapes grown in the United States today come from California. Grapes are nutricious, as they contain natural sugar, dietary fiber, iron, and potassium. Grapes come in many varieties and colors. The type of grape you use may be dependent upon the purpose of the grape. Grapes are eaten as fruit right off the vine. They are also used in making wine, grape seed oil, dried fruit (raisins), grape juice, ethanol, and distilled liquors. Grapes are essentially harvested during the summer and early fall.
This salad includes the nutricious and delicious properties of grapes with cream cheese, vanilla, sour cream, sugar, and nuts to create a great dessert salad that also can be eaten as a snack. This salad is served chilled. Give this salad a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. This is a great dish to take to family gatherings or church picnics.
